How Bearded Man Get into the Corporate that Too with Beards

Hi, everyone once again!

First of all I really want to make an apology that I am not able to read your blog post, cannot even post my posts either so frequently. And on top of it I cannot even reply to your lovely comments. I really feel bad about it at times! 😀

But my circumstances are like that only. You know, in last few days everything has changed in my life. Well, it is always exciting though it was even more than that.

As you all know I always like to share my every little achievements with you all, my own WordPress family. Whather it is my result declaration or a little exotic poetry I have written. I just feel good to share with my people what I have. I do not do this, just because I want to prove something or want to show off to people. Hell, No! It simply makes me happy.

Today, again I want to make myself and you happy by sharing one of the excited things which occurred in my life recently. As you all have been known that I am pursuing an MBA since an year. And in last year I have shared multiple stories with you all and I still remember your fantabulous comments in the posts.

Now you all must be wondering what I do have in my treasure box this time, aren’t you?

Okay, so let me break the suspense now. 😉

Just two days ago (i.e., on Sept 23, Saturday) I came to about this placement and Internship things which was going in my college. Since I was in Delhi for almost a week so I was very inactive on my mails, WhatsApp, Facebook and all the social media and all. So I had no clue what was happening in my college.

But the strange thing happened when I came to know about one arrival of a well-known financial company. I just thought of appear in the campus selection.

It somehow frightened me when they said we have to go through three levels of Interview that is-

Aptitude Test

So this one included the multiple tests such as- verbal ability, general knowledge, odd one out, English ability, quant and many more. There were total 60 questions out of which I could able to answer 40+ right answers. Whhhhhhooooaa! Let me tell you, I am worst at such exams and I always hated such tests. I tried to appear them earlier and always failed in passing them bit by the grace of God I could pass that online aptitude test that too in 47 minutes with 68% that is 40/60 answers were right when I was unprepared(completely)

Group Discussion

Then comes the second round of Group Discussion (GD), could went through this as well.

Personal Interview

Now it was time for the final call where an interviewer will ask questions about you and you will have to convince him that you are perfect for the job.

The mockery happened with was something different. As you all know how I am involved in all the creative activities and various events. He asked me the same and in the very first go he suggested me to not enter into the organization. Why?

“Well, you are already writing well Mr Sumit. Mr Blogger. You have appeared on National TV. You have appeared on magazines, you often come on page 3 in newspapers twice-thrice in a month. You organize events in the city. You are set to do anything you want. But our organization is completely different. Here you have to be a little specific and composed about the thing you will have to sell.”

This sentence… This sentence made me actually think why do I want to enter into the field I always hated all my life?

If you have read my earlier posts on exams, you would surely know how much I hate Finance. FINANCE. It was something I always poor at. But that is where I seek opportunity. Did you notice?

I said the same thing to interviewer that I know I always hated these financial things. But have I ever realized why? The answer is NO. Because there was lack of knowledge in me, there were misconceptions in my mind which was becoming the barriers in my way. And what I believe is if a human can find out the actual root of the problem then he/she can surely fight against the problem and can achieve all the endeavors in his life.

Still, interviewer too the most of his time interviewing me only. It took me more than

35 minutes to convince him. Still, he was not agreeing. He, at last, gave me the opportunity to get the job if I truly believe in myself.

I was confident enough in front of me. My gestures, postures, body language, and verbal language. I should say more than confident.

I had to have this job, because I wanted to fill my lack of knowledge with their training programs and tricks to win the heart of clients.

(Skipping the entire conversation (interesting one too, else you will get bored now. LOL!)

I had to sell interviewer’s cell phone. A cell phone which only costs INR 12000, and I had to sell that phone to him that too in INR 100000. I was given the time of a minute. I prepared my strategies in less than 28 seconds and was prepared for selling the phone.

I convinced him to buy the same phone in Rs 1 Lakh. That was my passion to get into the organization, that was my passion to overcome the fear of Shares, Equity, Commodities. A complete package of Finance.

98% it was clear that the interviewer is impressed with my performance. Now it was time to come on the B E A R D part. Obviously! He asked me why do I grow beard? And he made so many assumptions that oh! You look like an actor, model perhaps it is the reason you are growing it, are you not?

I was very quiet at that moment. I said assume what you want to assume but the truth is I have been growing my beard for almost 6 years now, and it has become a part of my life. I love it hence I grow it as simple as that. It may be your choice to be cleaned shaven, not mine. I love to be rough. I love to put my efforts on things which are more important than razor.

*Silence for a moment now*

Last question he asked and last answer I have given was

Interviewer– What if company demands you to cut your beard?

Sumit– I would happily like to quit such job, where potential is measured by the looks. Sir, looks can be deceptive most of the times.

Interviewer– It was nice meeting you Sumit. Have great future.

Next morning I got the call from the company that I have been selected for the job have appeared yesterday.

So this is how BEARDED man got the job in the corporate. 🙂

Thank you for reading:)

I’ll be sharing my experience with you all of September 26, 2016. ☺

Till than take care and be healthy. And of course, man don’t froget to grow BEARD😎

    1. Hi
Thannk you very much. I am delighted to see your comment

Exactly the same I used to think when I get to know about this interview that it is not my cup of coffee. But my mind stop responding to this stereotypes and started thinking opposite, what if I get a chance to learn what I hate or do not know in specific.

That is it! I have decided that I will be joining this company and will learn and the most important thing I had thought was that I will be getting paid for thhis learning too.. Haha! 🙂

    1. Thank you NathaSwami.

Yes, that may be the case. They might have thought that if we hire this guy his total focus will be on generating the revenues for the organisation than wasting time on using razor to cut the beard. 😉

      1. You can say that.. Truly.
I mean being in Mumbai to get a salary of 25K/pm to a fresher is a big deal where people are surviving with 10-12K to get started.

At times, I look back and laugh at myself for how arrogant and unadjusted. Unlike now. 😂

      3. Because whatever I did is in the past, what matters is how I am at this point of time which will decide how I shall be in the future. 🙂

And the feeling is mutual, Rashmi.
