Jatra: A Marathi Food Fest in Indore 

Jatra, is conceived as an activity or event to give Indorean a taste of Maharashtrian culture.

Arpit, a friend of mine who has introduced me with this event 3 years back along with him. It happens once in an year for 3 days of November. Mostly in third weekend of November. And it’s our consecutively 3rd year that we went there for the love of food.

Jatra is all about Marathi culture, art, music, and of course delicious food😍

It’s one of the mega trade fairs organised by Marathi social activists.You can see a bunch of beautiful girls dancing all over the stage, wearing all those traditional dresses with a pinch of Lavni dance. Your mind gets refreshed after seeing something new which is not from your closed circle of culture.

Kolhapur folk dance is one of them.

You would see stalls of handicraft items such as clay items, decorative diyas for Diwali, marble products, handmade artificial jewellery, homemade chocolates and many more.

Along with all the arts and crafts you’ll see 50 stall of Maharashtrian food(that’s a different thing that most of them would be repeated😂) But yet, it’s great to taste multiple cuisines at the same place. And if we talk about the prices, it’s too reasonable, or I’d say reasonable would be an understatement. 😂😂

Minimum price – Rs 10

Maximum price – Rs 20

Now if you at least eat from 25 stalls that too with an average amount of Rs 15 it would only take around Rs 375. Not a bad deal, is it?;)
The delicious food contents –

Jhun ka papad. Missal. Puri bhai. Shrikhand puri. Mineral Nimbu pani. Ice creams and many more. 

Last year we had eaten the same ice cream, and again this year the same. 😅

So whenever you visit Indore in November, you should not miss a chance to have fun in Maharashtrian culture for 3 days. Have a great time ahead. ☺😇

  9. What a delicious post! 😋 i love these ‘even’ posts by SumitOfficial. They make me fee i’m right there. But I want to photos of those handicraft items. I so want to have some of of them. And the budget calculation! Haha… that was so from a financial analyst.

    I am still in an awe of how different cultures have amalgamated into each other in our country. Despite having its limitations, this is one of things which make me proud of my country. Ahilya utsava was another of Maharastriyan cultural impact on Malva region. Love it, simply lovin it!

      It was not pre-planned for me to write a blog about the event. I simply went tehre to enjoy, but as you know it was birthday of Arpit so I thought of writing a post for him on this occasion, and simultaneously covered the event too. So you know, Ek Teer Se Do NIshane. ahahahha

      But from nexttime I’ll be clicking pictures for you, and will make up my mind to write about such things so that it can reach more and more people across the world. 😀

The many pictures of so many varieties of food, made me hungry. It’s nice to see posts like this. It gives one a better perspective of other cultures and customs..   16. I dnt knew there was a Marathi Food festival with so many people around …… however you must had the usually dishes ……… apprently there is much more to the marathi cuisine then vada and usal pav ………. hope you see the post that i made today and you will see that …….

    1. Yes Aarti, I know there are much more dishes in Maharashtrian food than Vada and Usal.

      But these people only prepare that food. 😦
