Sex: A Three-letter Word or Taboo?

It is fantastic that while India is achieving so many endeavors, has made huge strides in science and technologies, medicines, business, start-ups and what not. But what makes me sad about being Indian is that people are still narrow-minded. The word SEX is still a taboo in today’s time. It is a topic which is only discussed books. Sex is a term which should be used in hushed tones, because of a few people’s mentality. Otherwise, people will start judging you.

Evocative Writing? That’s Called Smut!

Wherein people are going gaga over things which are publicly exploded. Be it a young or old everyone is bold when it comes to seeing sexy pictures of models/actresses on TV, Facebook, Instagram. But when there is someone who doesn’t see sex as a sin or crime, is being criticized by a few people, according to them,  sex writ-ups are something which should not be shared on a WhatsApp group of people who says are fond of literature whereas 95% of the same people from the group reads and appreciate what I write, so the rest of the 5%, who thinks what I write is evocative content disguised as erotica.

As most of the readers know that I write about sex and erotica; in literature language, it is known as Smut, which has its own history.

A writer should always write what he/she feels like. I am blessed with amazing readers who like and appreciate my writing style whatever I write. And I have personally met a lot of smut writers on WordPress itself. I don’t know why a few people who thinks they know literature better than anyone else in this world wants to guide people just because they are getting jealous of someone else’s victory.

They did not even know the meaning of smut. According to them what smut is “sexually explicit things” but they are so dumb that they don’t understand the real meaning of smut.

Smut means’ “Highly developed stories with love lines and other things that appeal to women. It can be in the form of comic, novels, magazine, or poetry.”

I was really astonished to see people who call themselves a literature lover, can insult a poet who doesn’t follow the stereotypes, who believes in writing what his heart says.

By the way, Goodreads have a category named as Literary Smuts which contains more than 121 books which are internationally successful.

Literary Smut ( 121 Books on Goodreads)

I neither want to name those people nor that group where I was criticized for my work. I simply refrain from such people. Really! It’s like they would go to Khajuraho to see the architectures which were built between the years 900 and 1200 AD, which contains intricate carvings of mankind having sex, but when a 21-year-old writes about sex in poetic and literary style, it is erotic and evocative for them. Wow, how can they even say they respect art? Fake people!

When I met the Founder of India’s first Female Urination Device

I met a person today, named Deep Bajaj who is an entrepreneur in one of the conferences I attended today. He was looking like Robin Sharma, a well-known motivator. So I was attending a conclave named “100 emerging start-ups of 2017 in India” where I met him in Indore’s Daly college. His start-up idea has made me amazed when I actually saw what he does and how he came up with the idea. He has introspected, while the girl is traveling via bus she cannot go to the washroom in midst of jungle. So he invented “Pee Buddy” which actually helps a girl to fix it near her vagina to pee easily without hesitation, just like a male who pees. I was so astonished to look at the confidence of Deep when he stood up from his chair during the conference and actually showed to the public how it works.

You can watch the video here:

Later on, I got a chance to meet him in person and I came to know about his product more. I asked only one question to him, which literally opened my eyes when he answered.

Did you think about people or society who might say you should be ashamed of yourself for inventing and selling such piece of shit called “Pee Buddy”? I asked Deep.

“Fuck what people or society says. If I would have not invented this, they would have criticized me anyway for other things I make. What matters to me is, females are very happily using it and we have already sold out our product to 100000 female customers who are satisfied with it.” He replied with a smile.

As we were walking towards the exit door, I told him that I write about Erotica and all my readers respect and love it, at the same time a few people are there who criticize me for doing so.

When the Founder Appreciated my Work

First of all, he stopped and shook hands with me smilingly. “ Sumit, you are doing a wonderful job which others are even afraid to think. Don’t think about those who can’t appreciate your work, just don’t care about them. Focus on who are motivating you, and at the end of the day, it is you who needs to be satisfied with what you do.” He said it and moved forward. I had goose-bumps by now.

All of a sudden a friend of mine Kalpit, interrupted in between, “Sir, he’s SumitOfficial who….” Kalpit said

“I already know Sumit by now. Good luck” He smilingly told Kalpit by looking at me. He bid us goodbye.

Well, the entire event made me one thing clear that no matter what I write or do right now, or I’ll be doing in my entrepreneurship journey, good and bad people will be everywhere.

We can’t just focus on them because they are worthless. I appreciate the 99% love I get from all of you which makes me go miles and miles. I love you all for that.

This discussion did teach me something that you should not think about those few (Who insult my work) but focus on those people who reads and appreciate what your heart wants you to write.

I already proved myself right to those unwanted people who rest their case in the end. But as my self-esteem don’t allow me to be around such negative people; I’ll refrain from them now.

I would strongly advise to people who thinks sex or sexual writing is a sin to have a proper sex education and educate themselves with actual art of literature.

  1. I’m glad you figured it out yourself. I’m sorry people gave you flak but may I ask: don’t your siblings, family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues give you flak?
And you have to understand the reason. They. Love. You! Remember when they said, “You’re Next!”😉
Your readers read you: now that’s worth a celebration.
    Cheers!🍷🍾🍦🍫or 🍼? Choose.

      1. My point is my family, siblings, people who knows me personally don’t flak me then who the heck are those few people who are telling themselves a literature scholar. I hate that part when a person becomes egostical.

  2. Mixed feelings of admiration for you and frustration of those set in their own idealistic arrogance… In a world brimming of diversity ; it baffels me to hear of just how closed minded many are…. I for one have never felt you to be disrespectfully inappropriate in any fashion. So, YES Sumit- do not stop writing from your heart… As life shifts to many shades ; so will your writing… Your readers embraces those changes as your words speak to our hearts!!!!!😄😄 ¡Al diablo con esos perdedores inseguros !! 👆💪

    1. Thank you so much for these words Jenn. You’ve been one of the wonderful readers of my work. I appreciate that you don’t want me to stop because of a few nincompoops.

I’ll keep on writing as long as my heart wants me to and readers read it. Love you for the support Jenn. Thank you. 😊

  3. Well written, a good article.
You know we are moving in such a society that the so called Gurus draw the lines and one should not go or see beyond these lines.
    One example
When I was in school one of my friend is reading a book of Osho.
The teacher thrash him and said concentrate on your studies.
    And Osho proved that.
So in the end it you who things better. And how you took in your stride for betterment.
Otherwise in this society even Asharam is God …..Father.

    1. I agree with you Rakesh that Osho was criticized for what he had said, and he still talk about sex very openly. And I guess there’s nothing wrong in that either. If something is not wrong, why don’t you talk about it. If you’re quite then you’re making it as if it’s a sin.

Erotica writing has a whole history in itself. People who fake it and says they know erotica Literature well should be stoned to death. 😂😁😅

Thank you for sharing a lovely story here Rakesh. Thank you. 😊

  4. This is wonderful n very much helpful to those who dont wanted to talk about the word sex.. but sex is not a big thing in this era… but we should talk about it, if a man tell a woman about his need of sex ,its fine…but what about woman who can’t say anything about her need of sex ,society will abuse you or say loads of stuff which they have in thier mind.
From my sight everyone have the right to choose thier decision.
Your writing really helpful..n keep writing more n more ❤

    1. Correct Prachi. People are fucking judgmental on every single thing you do. If you’re wearing a short dress it’s not ok for them you, know what I feel for them? They are really poor people who can’t afford such girls around them be it their girlfriend, mother, or sister. They’ll judge them too. Because the root is rotten.

I’m glad that you feel my writing is trying to talk about topics which are less talked in the society.

    1. I’m glad you can understand Sanskriti. It’s not a story of smut-writer. In fact, there were a lot of scientists who had dreams in their mind which people could not understand. Today everyone remember them with respect. My time will come too. 😋😂😄😊

  5. Sumit, forget the haters; they’ll always find something to criticize. Having said that, do try to learn if they have something positive to offer for there is also a thing called constructive criticism. It is the latter ones that you shouldn’t mind. To hell to the former ones! 🙂

  6. It is an eye opener for many…(Only if they read it)!!!!
But I would like to appreciate that you took a stand by not being monotonous.
Also I would like to add that We Indians follow the western culture to a great extent… Then why not follow their mentalities too… Y not be as open minded as them???

  7. I always appreciate errotic writings, provided the mind of the writer is clean.Actually Sumit, being 20,I don’t know if I am right.I feel as long as the writer is expressing love in the form of such writings,it seems beautiful but sometimes when people cross that thin line and then if it start looking like a craving for lust, then I think it is not worth posting.Having thoughts of lust can be normal, however one should not post because it can have a bad impact on the readers.
Anyways,I liked your post,to be frank found it very informative and as you revealed that new product, the post is innovative as well.

    1. That’s my point Shivangi, it’s not the only thing I write and share here. If you get back to a year or two years back posts. You’ll find a lot of varieties in my writing style. I always write what my heart says.

At times, it’s informative, descriptive, sharing, and other varieties. You’ll find everything in it.

And I agree with you that readers may not support it, but a real reader would always try to find out the mysteries behind the words. 😊

  8. Writing erotica is not easy. And publishing it (especially if you’re in a country like India) is another mountain task. I admire your work. And yes, sex is a taboo. But that doesn’t mean we don’t write about it. How do we not make it a taboo? Talk about it, write about it, sing about it, etc. And I have always respected you as person because you have the courage to stand up for what you believe in. Continue doing your thing and if people object, don’t pay attention to it.

    1. Reading your views have really shook me Tanya. You’ve been always a good reader of my work. It’s not like I always write about erotica, but yes I’m someone who’s not afraid of “what, if my family, friends, professors etc come to know” I always support what my heart wants me to write.

I’m so elated to know that I have support of person like you. Thank you for the consoling words Tanya. 😊😊

When I wrote on menstruation, many people’s jaw dropped. How the hell being a female you write on such topics? I was like excuse me, its we who bleed every month and if being educated, you’re reacting like this, WTF I can expect from an illiterate ppl! Bravo Sumit. One of the reason I love reading you for your such posts.

    1. Thanks to you too Pritu. As I always say you’re one of the persons who motivated me to speak my heart through my words. I always loved your openness Pritu. Your posts talk about those topics which people don’t even think to write.

Having said that you were in my mind all the time while writing this post. And I’ve mentioned it too in the blog itself.

People are fucking crazy who says shit about such important topics which should be shared openly to know more.

I’m glad Pritu that you liked it and I hope we write more and more on what we want to write as long as people want to read us. 😊😊😊😘💕

  10. Well many people have been getting open minded regarding sex yet it will be always a hushed matter.
It’s sad that people, even though when they know that sex is probably the divine union of two bodies to reproduce, also giving pleasures of world and the most fundamental need of any living organism, deny talking about it or even having this weird notions considering it shameful.
We think we are ready to accept sex in it’s all nudity, but are we really?

    1. I’m completely agree with you. Sex is something which should be discussed in such a way so that the coming generation do not lead to wrong path.

But I’m sad to know that people are so fake that they can’t even see the art behind the word “Sex”.

As a lot of writers have shared their views smut-writing is not an easy task to do.

I think people still need to grow a bit more with their mindsets.

      1. But what happens is people who are already pretty clear read about this posts and acknowledge and people who are ignorant stay ignorant.
It’s like rich getting richer and poor getting poorer. The actual people who needs to go through this won’t even read!

  11. Where I stay, it isn’t exactly a , though the only time you can talk about it is if you’re with a group of friends, and even then, there’s someone who looks at you like you’re this really bad person. Worse when you’re with elderly ones… But I guess that happens in a lot of places.
I write romance, but not main erotica. Though when you write romance, there will definitely be hints of erotica, and for a while I was so concerned with what would say, that I was so intent on keeping my blog private, but I realized that sooner or later, people would know about it, and I wasn’t going to hide that anymore.

  12. I’ve actually been to Khajuraho and seen these carvings. It’s amazing how people back then respected and worshipped the intimate act of sex, but now it’s turned into something that should be spoken about in hushed whispers.

  13. A sunset is nothing to a beast, art makes it what it is for humans. Art can have many manisfestation, smut can be one among them. U carry on with your work. Listen to criticism, and answer by ur work. I also view that when sex is unavoidable why it should me taboo. Its one of the powerful means of creating hapiness between two genders.

  14. There is something I read that states “People will never truly understand something until it happens to them”. Thanks for sharing and happy to hear that you feel that you shouldn’t focus on the negatives. Like you said, there will always be supporters and naysayers. Keep doing what is in your heart, follow your passion. Sex is natural between two consenting people, when that happens, it should be celebrated – art is subjective, some people appreciate it, some don’t. Thanks for taking the time to read my posts and blog – look forward to seing more of yours!
