Who hasn’t grown up with clichés?

Clichés have been around forever and everybody uses them from time to time. In fact, we learn a lot of them at English class in the form of proverbs and sayings. And that’s a good thing because a lot of clichés are power-packed with wise advice and rules to live by.

However, trouble brews when they are generalized, taken literally or misinterpreted due to popular notion. These overused statements then become limiting beliefs that negatively influence our thoughts, choices and decisions.

This book examines 20 commonly misunderstood clichés – the ones we all learned in school. Full of cartoons, popular music references and personal experiences of famous and non-famous folks, it will help you truly live life your way.

My Review

I have been reading non-fictions and self-help books for a long time now. And lately, I have stopped reading them because somehow they all are saying the same thing in a different manner. But Busting Clichés is a book which I found really interesting, as the title itself is very catchy the book is exactly the same.

Cliche 10

The author of the book has done a very well research on the 20 clichés on which the book is based on. Many times we just follow the stereotypes when we can actually deal with the reality, though we are so trapped in those clichés which we have learned from our school age that we still suffer from it. Mahevash has really busted those 20 clichés with amazing illustrations and quotes from inspiring people of the world. Also, it has Music reference (Songs mentioned in it) with each chapter is the cherry on the cake.

Cliche 17

Final Verdict

I really loved the way Mahevash writes, you will not feel as if it might be her debut novel, her voice is deep and her words communicate in a beautiful manner once you start reading. Also, I did not feel a bit that she was trying to say the same things like other motivators too. Her choice of words is completely unique which engages the reader to read more. It would have been nice if it was more than 20 clichés though even if we try to work on these 20 it would make a huge difference in our lives.

It is a small illustrative read with some mind-blowing facts, and I definitely recommend this book.
