Leadership Development Program is basically designed to develop leaders in the industry where new mindsets and changes bring the required changes as per the market trend.
In this program, new and passionate aspirants learn about the management in the organization to build values down the line.
In Jaro Education, this program is conducted this year, and I feel lucky to be a part of it. I’m being a part of this organization since more than 3 years now and every year LDP attracted me. And this time, I got the chance to be selected.
So in the today’s session I got to know about a lot of new features of leadership which I had only referred and mugged-up during my MBA days. They’re surely a great help now when I was introduced to them today:
- What’s Leadership
- Leadership styles
- What’s bad leadership
- Leading in the future
- Organization Intelligence
- What excites a person to be a leader and many more things…
The term is so easy to use and tell, but so difficult to implement the same when the responsibility comes on the shoulder. I remember my first month of leadership where I was messed up landing up less than 50% of the achievement irrespective of the fact to be on the Top 3 employees of Jaro Education. You’ll be judged by the team you handle and not by your individual performance anymore.
I learnt, leadership is nothing but the ability to influence others with or without authority.
The best examples of them are:
- Mahatma Gandhi
- Nelson Mandela
- Anna Hazare etc.
It’s a mixture of three components:
- Interpersonal Communication
- Conflict Management
- Problem Solving
For example, Rahul Gandhi can be a good leader, but what he’s not good at is his communication skills. He’s unable to deliver what’s important.
Importance of Leadership
It gives the climate of the organization. Leaders are the environment creator. Without them everything would be messed up. It always helps the employees to achieve the vision or goal of the company.
I learnt about the difference between a Manager and a leader. I have great examples of both in my life and I can relate it very well for what I want to become.
Managers are good task managers but leaders are the ones who come in front and lead. They bring the required changes which are necessary for the growth. They see the future.
Example: BR Ambedkar was the one who brought the Social Change through this in the country.
Blake & Mounton Managerial Grid:
“The Blake Mouton Managerial Grid helps you to think about your leadership style and its effects on your team’s productivity and motivation. By plotting “concern for results” against “concern for people,” the grid highlights how placing too much emphasis on one area at the expense of the other leads to poor results.”
It tells us about how one needs to change with the situation from task manager to relationship manager. It keeps on fluctuating depending upon the situations.
Aspects of Individual Leadership
1) Leadership by position
2) Build Solid Personal Relationship
3) Getting Results
4) Leadership Pinnacle: People Development
What makes a Leader different?
- Reaching others
- Prioritizing tasks
It was a great session from the Day 1 to learn about my own self. This is a great initiative by the organization to develop more leaders and I’m glad to be a part of it.
